Patient Care Volunteer
A Hospice patient care volunteer provides non-medical support to a terminally ill patient and their loved ones. This support can be provided to those living in The Hamrick Home or to those patients living in their own homes. A patient care volunteer may sit with a patient in their own home while the primary caregiver goes shopping, to the doctor, or maybe just takes a walk. While in the home the volunteer might provide emotional support to the patient and family, read a letter to the patient, or might even prepare a light snack. At The Hamrick Home the volunteer might socialize with a patient on the porch, while enjoying some fresh air. On occasion, a volunteer may run an errand to pick up medication from the pharmacy or a few groceries. The impact on the patient and the family of these small and easy tasks performed by a patient care volunteer is tremendous. The words of thanks and hugs are real and priceless.
