Hospice of Okeechobee
The Hamrick Home
Approved by the State to Offer Additional Services
In September, 2009 Hospice of Okeechobee received
approval from the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration to provide
Inpatient Level of Care services at The Hamrick Home. The Hamrick Home is a twelve bed hospice
residence located here in Okeechobee. It
has been lovingly accepting patients since 2006.
The new services that will now be offered at The
Hamrick Home will allow individuals to avoid a hospital stay if they are
experiencing symptom control issues. For
example, hospice patients might come to the facility to receive help with
issues related to pain control or for breathing problems. They would stay for a few days to have their
medications properly adjusted and then be able to return to their own
homes. Hospice staff would then continue
to provide follow up care at the patient’s home.
Patients will find the homelike environment of The
Hamrick Home more pleasing and
comfortable than an institutional setting. The facility makes it easy for family members
and friends to visit during their short stay.
Competent loving hospice nurses will be available to attend to the
patient twenty four hours a day.
The Hamrick Home will continue to provide the long
term care that it is renowned for. Hospice patients have often chosen to live
at the facility for several months and we will continue to provide these
services as well.
